Be serious with Science subjects-Hon. Collins Amankwah urges female students

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwah has stressed the importance of the study of science in schools across the country.

Consequently, he has urged female students to attach all the seriousness the subject deserves to its study.

Addressing staff and pupils of the Mmofraturo Junior High School, an all female school at the 16th graduation ceremony in Kumasi, Hon Amankwah expressed the commitment of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) government to invest more resources into education especially in the area of science and technology.

According to him, government believes such investments in science holds the key to the rapid development of the country.

CHARGE:
The MP charged female students to break away from the fear they normally associate with the study of science and technology.

According to him, it is never true that the study of science is the preserve of males or the boy child, adding that misconception had added to the fear in girls aspiring to undertake further studies in the sciences.

”It is erroneous for you as girls and female students to attach fear to the study of mathematics and science since there is nothing fearful about these subjects”, the MP posited.

Narrating the exploits of the first lady astronaut in the United States of America, Dr Sally Ride, Hon Amankwah recalled the devotion this lady attached to the study of the sciences.

OUTGOING PREFECT:
Addressing the graduands and gathering earlier, Miss Rose Mensah, out-gone prefect at the Mmofraturo Junior High School urged their former school mates to adhere to the discipline and directions of the teachers and headmistress of the school.

This, she expressed will stand them in good stead even as they prepare to take up the mantle of leadership from the outgoing JHS three pupils.

According to her, the moral and Christian principles that is being taught in the school will forever shape them up for the task ahead of them in the future.

She urged the pupils to take lessons in the Information Communication and Technology(ICT) serious since that has the potential in shooting them higher in their academic pursuits.

She, however, requested the support of private and individual organizations to get some computers so as to enable the continuing pupils study ICT since it was a serious subject requiring the use of the equipment.
