Residents turn Sepe Tinpom M/A JHS into lavatory

DSCF2156Some unidentified residents of Sepe Tinpom a suburb of the Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region have turned the compound and classrooms of the Sepe Tinpom Junior High School (JHS) into a defecating place, a situation which affecting teaching and learning.

The School pupils have expressed fear they could be contracting strange diseases if authorities at the municipal Education directorate do not put in measures to stop such practice.

According to them, they spend much of their time collecting and disposing of human excreta and rubbish each morning to the detriment of their lesson period.

The Sepe Tinpom M/A JHS has a student population of 350.

Since its establishment, the school has been confronted with challenges including the lack of urinal, inadequate teaching and learning materials, lack of computers to study the ICT subject and poor sanitation.

The pupils have expressed worry over how members of the community use their classrooms and compound as a refuse dump site and a toilet facility.

Expressing their concerns, a student said “when we come to school, the community members always throw faeces around especially behind the school’s library. We use our study time to clean the rubbish and the faeces which is affecting our studies,”

Another pupil added that these unidentified persons sometimes spread the human excreta on the walls of the classrooms.

They are therefore appealing to authorities to halt such practice before the situation gets out of hand.

Head teacher of the school Mr De-Graft Edusei Mensah who is equally worried about the practice indicated that all efforts by the school authorities to halt the practice have not been successful.

He is however appealing with community members engaged in such act to stop.
