Pan African Congress to launch 8th congress

amissahThe Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 8th Pan African Congress (PAC), says the international event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10, at the Accra International Conference Centre at 1000 hours.

Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur is expected to deliver the key note address at the event, which would be attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, community organisations, youth, labour, women and faith based organisations.

A statement issued by Mr Kwasi Adu, Coordinator in Accra at the weekend and copied to Ghana News Agency said following the 7th PAC in April 1994 in Kampala, a Secretariat was set up to coordinate the affairs of the Global Pan African movement.

As part of continuing efforts to galvanise the continent and build an African consensus, a number of institutions, organisations and individuals are collaborating to inject energy into the Pan-African Movement (PAM).

The statement said having engaged in a Pan-African wide discussion, the Secretariat of the Global PAM announced in February 2014 that the 8th Pan African Congress would take place in Accra following consultations with mass organisations, Ghana and the Africa Union (AU).

“Indeed the AU has adopted the congress as part of activities marking its 50th anniversary and it is expected that at least 10 African Heads of State will be at the opening ceremony,” it said.

The statement said all administrative and logistical arrangements for the 8th PAC would be handled in Ghana by the LOC under the chairmanship of Mr Kwesi Pratt, Jnr.
