NDC unity walk: I brought ‘the Hawks’ – Yamin

Former Deputy Ashanti regional minister, Joseph Yamin has disclosed that the vigilante group, ‘the hawks’, is a group within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said the group will work for him especially when he is voted to become the party chairman of the NDC in the region ensure absolute security for the party whenever they are needed

“I brought them…they are here with us. They came to walk just as I walked”, the former deputy NADMO boss told Kaakyire Kwasi Appea-Apraku on Power 97.9 FM’s Dwaboase on Monday.

At the recently held Unity walk in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, the heavily built men were seen leading the walk which was attended by  former president John Dramani Mahama and other national party executives.

The stout men were seen in black T-Shirts with the inscription “The Hawks” sending signals that the NDC had unveiled a new vigilante group to face the vigilante groups within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Asked where the able-bodied men came from and what they were doing at the walk, Mr Yamin said they are NDC sympathisers who came there to do what was expected of them.

“Some of them are even twice built than the hawks. When I become the NDC chairman for the Ashanti region, there will be more of them,” Yamin who is aspiring to lead the party in the region said.

He wouldn’t tell where they came from but added there are more of such people who were with the NPP but have defected to the NDC “because they are disappointed in the NPP.”

Meanwhile speaking on the Morning Xpress on Radio XYZ, the National Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams denied the group was for the party, saying he is not aware of any such group to work for the party.

“We (NDC) did not outdoor any group…A lot of groups thronged the walk and one of such groups, they call themselves ‘the hawks’, we had the Kayayes, head porters, we had small scale miners, the magazine people, we had traders. All manner of people joined and they had their banners and either they had their T-shirts (too),” he stated.
