Make hygiene a lifestyle for your baby’s wellbeing-Midwife

Ghana News-This message was drummed home by Madam Abigail Adjei; a midwife with the Ankaase Methodist Hospital.

She was speaking to over twenty pregnant and nursing mothers who benefit from education and donations by Maternal Consult; a non-governmental Organization.

She explained that a lack of hygiene can easily lead to fatal complications for the baby and serious problems for the mother as well.

Founder of the NGO; Madam Veronica Asifua Botchwey also encouraged the women to report any incident or observation they deem suspicious to the hospital.

Madam Botchwey started her NGO last year and has been sustaining it from her own pocket. She donates basic items to the poor mothers to help sustain the upkeep of their children and also provides training on income generating ventures such as soap making, batik tie and dye, amongst others.

She personally inspects the children and listens to the women discuss various issues affecting their babies as well as themselves.

Members of her group meet at a designated meeting place at Mamponteng in the Ashanti region on the first Saturday of each month.
