Mahama’s Letters Could Cause Fear And Panic – Aggrey Darko

flagstaffA Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Evans Aggrey Darko says, President Mahama’s letter to all political appointees informing them of some changes within his team, is likely to cause fear and panic in government.

Such actions he noted could have negative effects on the work of government due to the divided attention the appointees may hold in a bid to secure their jobs.

“It will have a boomerang effect in the sense that it could lead to some panic within the rank and file of some of the key actors and that can undermine productivity,” he explained.

Reports from the Flagstaff House indicate that the President has written to thank all political appointees at the seat of government for services rendered to the nation, hinting of imminent changes in his government.

The President has been undertaking a ministerial reshuffle in his government to ensure the effective management of the various sectors of the economy.

He has been widely criticized for appointing inefficient and unqualified individuals into government.

But reports are that the impending changes at the Presidency wil see the likes of Nana Ato Dadzie and Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah being appointed back into government.

According to Dr. Aggrey Darko, the President should have used another approach rather than sending out the letters because focus on critical government business will dwindle “because you want to ensure your own survival in the government.”

He also mentioned that the development will give rise to intense lobbying “and so you will see people sending a lot more time looking at how or who is likely to be affected and what he can do to ensure that they continue in their post.”
