KMA closes down noisy information centre following rawgist.com efforts

noise-pollutionResidents of Emena, near KNUST can now heave a sigh of relieve as they have been liberated from the noise dictatorship that prevented any peace of mind at all in the area.

The Noise unit of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, after persistent complaints from a resident; Peter Cunningham and the rawgist.com team took action to confiscate the noise making equipment of the Emena Victory Information Centre.

The Information Centre which was operating without a licence was operating defiantly at a noise level of over 78 db.

All attempts to get the operator of the place to tone down on the noise proved abortive as he woke everyone up at 5am and cut transmission around 10 am and then returned around 4PM and broke it off around 8:30PM.

There is a primary and Junior High School close by which has complained about the noise. The Emena Hospital is also close by whiles several students of the KNUST also lived in the area.

“At 10 cedis an hour, this man finds it convenient to deny our kids any opportunity of studying and bombards us with noise stretching at least 7 hours each day”, a resident complained to rawgist.com.

The KMA team led by Edmund Kombal however did their job of rescuing residents from the noise; an action which deserves commendation in the face of the numerous challenges the office faces with resources.
