Interior Minister Announces Insurance Package for Fire Service Personnel
The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a new insurance package for personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who sustain permanent injuries in the line of duty.
He made this announcement during the Passing Out Parade of Recruit Course 55 at the Fire Academy and Training School in Accra.
According to the Minister, firefighters who suffer non-permanent injuries in the line of duty will receive fifty thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵50,000.00) whiles those who sustain permanent injuries will be entitled to ten thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵100,000.00), and the same amount will be paid to the families of officers who lose their lives while on duty.
He added that families of officers who die a natural death while still in service will receive fifty thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵50,000.00).
Mr. Muntaka emphasised that the introduction of the new insurance package was intended to boost morale and provide financial security for GNFS personnel who are injured or killed in the line of duty.
“This is just the beginning. We are committed to improving welfare packages, logistics support, and working conditions for our gallant fire officers, whose sacrifices often go unnoticed,” he added.
The Minister also used the occasion to highlight some critical challenges facing the Service, including the persistent issue of prank calls to emergency lines.
He warned that such misuse of resources delays real-life emergency responses and can result in the loss of lives.
He commended the recruits for their resilience and discipline, urging them to serve the nation with integrity and dedication.
