I don’t have the President’s support – Huudu

hudu-yahayaA National Chairman aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alhaji Huudu Yahaya has rubbished claims that he is receiving support from President John Dramani Mahama for his bid for the position.

According to him, the allegations being made were baseless and unfair to the President and to him, given the commitment they have previously shown to fairness. “He [President Mahama] is the leader of the party and he is the leader of everybody in the country so why [would he support] me? I want to say emphatically no [the President is not supporting me]. I have known him before he even entered politics. He is a very sincere person, a very transparent person. He’s always a very fair-minded person. It’s not my nature and it’s not the President’s nature,“ he told Citi News in an interview.

Alhaji Yahaya, who has said that he is running for the position based on merit, added that the delegates of the party should elect people based on their competence and their commitment to the party’s agenda.

“I would not want unfair means to contest because I want the best for the party. So we should all come out, tell the people of the party what we want to do and what we can do and let the people make their fair judgment. That is what will help the party,” he said. “If I am not the right person please if you love the party, don’t put me there. All I am asking for is that we give party what it deserves for us all to be able to push the party the next four years.”

The NDC’s national delegates’ congress is scheduled to take place on December 13, however, Citi News understands that it may be postponed to December 20. If confirmed, this will be the second time the party’s congress has had to be moved after the original October 25 date had to be moved when a lawsuit was filed against the party by an aggrieved member.
