Gov’t can no longer subsidize residential utility bills at tertiary institutions-Ablakwa

okudzeto AblakwaGovernment of Ghana has officially announced that it would not subsidize utility bills at public universities at the residential areas starting next academic year, following a recent directive from government.

Addressing students of the KNUST at the CCB auditorium, during the newly designed programme “Campus Connect”, the deputy minister of education in charge of tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says as a result of the increase in the number of students at the various public institutions, government is unable to take care of expenses such as utility bills of students at the residential areas.

This directive means that students residing at the traditional halls at the various public universities would have to pay for utility bills starting next semester.
