FDA eyes over 90 Pharmacists for employment pending clearance

Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority; Pharm. Mimi Darko says her outfit needs a lot more Pharmacists for their operations.

According to her, all that stands in the way of the FDA is financial clearance from government.

She explains that as soon as the clearance is obtained, the FDA will employ about 95 Pharmacists to help the Authority carry out their mandates.

She also explains that for various jobs of the FDA, Pharmacists will be easy to bring in because they are easy to train.

She reveals that the Authority is positioning itself to engage more with stakeholders and the general public as they carry out their watchdog roles.

As part of further resourcing that is ongoing to help them better protect the populace, the CEO revealed that about five handheld devices have been procured for scanning and detecting counterfeit or substandard medicines on the market. She stated that there are ongoing efforts to get more of such devices.

She also gave statistics of newly registered medicines for the year.

She says that in an effort to ensure public safety especially from sexually transmitted infections, the FDA takes pains to test every batch of condoms produced in the country.

She was speaking during the 2017 Annual conference of the Pharmaceutical society of Ghana held in Kumasi.
