Alan supporters call on NPP National Executives to disqualify Dr. Bawumia and Wontumi for defying party directive

Some supporters of Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten are calling on National Executives of the New Patriotic Party to disqualify Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and Ashanti regional chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Bosiako for disregarding the party’s directives on erection of billboards.

Some alleged supporters of the Vice-President displayed a banner of Dr. Bawumia at Manhyia Palace during the Akwasidae festival.

The situation nearly led to a clash between supporters of Dr. Bawumia and Trade Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten, key personalities named to be eyeing the NPP flagbearership.

The timely intervention of security guards at the Manhyia Palace and some elders averted the clash.

The arrival of the Vice President and other government officials to the Manhyia durbar grounds for the Akwasidae festival turned into political campaigning amidst singing and drumming.

The inner perimeter of the durbar grounds got charged when supporters of Dr. Bawumia openly displayed the “Break the 8 with Dr. Bawumia’’ banners.

This provoked the Alan camp at the festival who called on National Executives of the party to disqualify Dr. Bawumia and Bernard Antwi Bosiako for supporting the course.

The Alan supporters claim National Executives of the party have failed to ensure compliance with its directive of no campaign ahead of the National Delegates’ Conference.

An aspirant vying for the regional chairmanship position Odeneho Kwaku Appiah has started pulling down his billboards in the city to comply with the directive.

Meanwhile, executive Director for Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBRE), Gordon Newlove Asamoah, has described the order to remove erected campaign billboards as dictatorial and non-democratic.
