Deputy Ashanti regional minister vindicated by Otumfour’s comments

yammin-adansiDeputy Ashanti regional minister Joseph Yammin says he feels vindicated by the Asantehene’s statement about his chiefs not defending him whenever issues crop up in the media.

The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II lashed out at Asante chiefs last Thursday at an Asanteman council meeting for not defending him whenever he is ridiculed in the media despite the oaths they had sworn to defend Asanteman.

Prior to the King’s statement, Deputy Ashanti regional Minister, Joseph Yammin had criticized Asante chiefs in a similar vein about a fortnight ago. He is quoted to have said that if the chiefs will not defend Otumfour, some of them will.

The criticisms come in the face of some leaked videos of the powerful King dancing with the President and some government functionaries during a private party at his residence.

Joseph Yammin tells rawgist.com in an interview he feels happy the King has confirmed his sentiments despite the several political twists attributed to the issue he had raised.

He also tells rawgist.com many of the chiefs of the Ashanti Kingdom continue to be on very good terms with him “despite all the efforts by some self-seeking politicians to twist my comments for their selfish ends”.

“I made the statement without malice and I’m grateful Otumfour has expressed similar sentiments”, he tells rawgist.com.
