CPP close to reclaiming its lost assets from the state

CPPThe Attorney General will engage the council of elders of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) on handing over confiscated properties belonging to the party.

Party buildings of the CPP including the one currently housing the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council and the Communications Ministries building are among the long list of properties expected to be released.

The council of elders of the CPP led by its Chairman, Felix Amoah paid a courtesy call on the President, John Dramani Mahama.

Following the 1966 coup that overthrew Dr. Nkrumah, assets belonging to the CPP were confiscated by the state.

Notably, the Communication Ministry building and the building currently housing the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council are among properties likely to be relinquished to the party.

The visit is a follow up by the CPP executives after the President promised in the 2015 state of the nation address that discussions were underway to hand over assets belonging to the party.

The Chairman of the CPP Council of elders, Felix Amoah, commended the president for the gesture.

“We felt it is very appropriate for us to follow up to come and say thank you for doing what you did because it was a very bold and courageous gesture of restoration and restitution”.

A member of the council, Bafour Kwamena Senchiri, also commended the President for the gesture and commended him for his role in fighting the deadly Ebola virus as Chairman of Ecowas.

President Mahama assured, the attorney general would soon engage the elders to finalize processes.

“I know the Attorney-General has been working on it and it was the Akpalu Commission of Enquiry that confiscated the assets and so she is going through that commission’s report. This will enable her identify the property and compare with the list that you gave us so we can properly identify the assets as we are discussing. Then she will send her recommendations to me as the President but I am sure that at a point in time, she will invite you for a discussion”.
