Magic Mahama

MahamaHi folks, I feel like letting my beatings coun… eiii sorry oo, I meant I feel like letting my voice count this afternoon, but don’t worry I want to assure you that I am going to apply minimum force wai.

Magic is defined as having or apparently having supernatural powers, eg: a magic wand. It can also be defined as something wonderful or exciting as in “a magic moment.”

People who have extremely excelled in their fields have had “magic” added to their names, and one example that comes to mind is Earvin Johnson Jnr. Johnson accomplished virtually everything a player could dream of during his 13-year NBA career, and he was named Magic Johnson.

In Ghana there is magic in the air too. Something unprecedented is happening, and President John Dramani Mahama is eliciting wonder and admiration from even people who do not like him. His Changing Lives and Transforming Ghana agenda is becoming much more visible.

Apart from other numerous developmental projects initiated by the young man from Bole, he gave a deeper meaning to the second greatest commandment in the Bible, “love thy neighbour as thyself” by launching a National Medical Outreach Services dubbed “ONUADOR” which means “love your neighbour” in Sekondi a few days ago to cater for unserved areas of the country.

Eight state-of-the-art vans going to serve as mobile clinics were also inaugurated. Under the first phase of the programme, forty-three districts are going to benefit; the breakdown are as follows: six districts each in the Western and Volta Regions, three each in the Eastern, Greater Accra, Brong Ahafo and Ashanti Regions, five in the Northern Region and four each in the Upper West and Upper East Regions.

According to a study by Van den Boom et al, medical facilities are not evenly distributed across the country, with most rural areas lacking basic facilities such as hospitals and clinics as well as doctors and nurses. The launch of this vital outreach programme is, therefore, a major coup to our rural folks.

Wait a minute, the young man from Bole is not yet done. After the launch of “Onuador”, President Mahama launched and commissioned the Progressively Free SHS and H.E. John Evans Atta Mills SHS respectively. The J.E.A. Mills SHS is the first of the 200 Community Day Senior High Schools promised by the First Gentleman of the land during his campaign in 2012.

The 4-level structure which is E-shaped, signifying excellence, is made up of the following: 24 classrooms, 4 laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Integrated Science; 2 libraries, 8 offices for Departmental Heads, ICT laboratories, Internet Learning Area and offices for Headmaster and staff.

Also, an amount of 12.2 million Ghana Cedis was given to the education ministry to take care of the Progressively Free SHS programme for the 2015/2016 academic year.

Kai, I nearly forgot another big one. President John Dramani Mahama just cut the sod for the construction of the Ho Airport in the Volta Region. If magic means wonderful, exciting, awesome, remarkable, alluring, outstanding, terrific and admirable, then I want to propose that we call our president Magic Mahama. What do you think?
