BHOBU-POGA walk slated for 3rd June

The Bishop Herman Old Boys Union (BHOBU) and their female counterpart, Past Ola Girls Association (POGA) are once again set to climb up the Ayi Mensah-Peduase Lodge hill at Aburi for this year’s BHOBU-POGA Health Walk.

This is one of the numerous reunion events the aforementioned old students’ associations organize every year to bring all old students of the two top-flight Volta Region schools en masse to fraternize and network. The event, which will take place on Saturday 3rd June, has already started getting some buzz on social media.

According to Samuel Kafui Gedzah, who’s a member of the organising team, “We are organising this because walking is a great way to improve or maintain one’s overall health. Just a 30-minute of walk everyday can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. It can also reduce your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers.”

He added, “Unlike some other forms of exercise, walking is free and doesn’t require any special equipment or training.”

The organizers entreat all and sundry especially old students of Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) and Ola Girls School to be a part of this health walk on Saturday. It starts at exactly 5:30 AM.

Bishop Herman College (BIHECO), the first boys-only secondary school established by the Catholic Church in the Volta Region, was established on 28th February 1952. The school, situated at Kpando was named after a French Catholic bishop called Augustine Herman.

OLA Girls School, their sister school, on the other hand was established on 1st February 1954 by Bishop Anthony Konings in Keta with 35 students (all girls). The school was later moved to Ho, the capital of the Volta Region.
