Asokwa fails to get PM after third attempt…despite filing fresh candidates

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly yet again failed to produce a presiding member at a third meeting held at its office complex in Asokwa today.

This is despite the filing of fresh candidates, Dr Kwabena Boadu, a government appointee and Nana Yaw Wiredu, elected assembly member from Ahinsan Estate.

Two candidates, Oscar Riches and Bismark Osei Tutu who earlier contested had to be withdrawn due to the inability of either of the two to secure the required number of votes and percentage at two separate meetings having gone through four sets of elections.

Thursday morning’s meeting commenced with a suggestion by the Assembly to use a simple majority to decide the outcome.

However, the EC officer rejected the idea intimating that she was there to conduct elections and nothing else.

ELECTIONS:
17 members comprising 10 elected assembly members and six (6) government appointees as well as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) were present for the polls.

Two elected members were absent as well as the MP, who is an ex-officio member.

Recording 11 votes to 6 by his contender, Dr Kwabena Boadu led NanaYaw Wiredu in the first round.

The second round saw Dr Boadu, a medical practitioner appreciating a vote more with his sole contender holding on to five (5) votes.

With no clear winner in sight, the Assembly as announced by the EC would need another election at least in a week’s time to settle the matter if the candidates so wish to contest again.
