Ashanti GJA tours Asanko mines

Ghana News–The Ashanti Regional Chairman and some executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have toured Asanko Mines, one of the largest mining companies in the region.

The visit is part of plans by the new executives of the Association to sensitize the fraternity as well as journalists on the operations of such multinational companies in the country.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper after a five (5) hour tour of sites and operation outlets of the Mine, Kingsley E Hope, Ashanti Chairman, GJA expressed satisfaction about the modus operandi of the company.

He commended them for adhering to strict safety standards as well as conducting a clean form of mining in the Esaase communities of the Ashanti Region.

‘’It is gratifying to see that Asanko Mines are committed to the safety of its workers as well as others who visit for other purposes and it is my hope that they continue to show how mining can be done in such serene manner’’, King Hope noted.

PLANS:

Mr Hope passionately mentioned plans by his outfit to conduct such site visits to other companies in the region.

This, he noted will afford the executives as well as practitioners the opportunity to learn at first hand the operations of such companies so as to be able to report on them accurately.

Areas such safety and security of workers are of prime importance to the GJA, he noted, adding the Association is committed to ensuring the Ghanaian worker is treated well at all times.

Issues about seeking better remuneration for the Ghanaian worker, King Hope mentioned is equally important to the Association.

GENERAL MANAGER:

Addressing the media earlier, Mr Charles Amoah, General Manager in Charge of Operations at Asanko Mines mentioned the company’s resolve to only conduct clean and responsible mining at its concessions.

This, he stressed will not only inure to the benefit of the society but the company and its workers who believe the environment needs to be protected at all times.

The Company, which has its headquarters in Vancouver, the Netherlands, is currently using local expertise and workers to conduct its exploration and mining activities.

Asanko Gold Mine, Mr Amoah noted is eternally committed to making the communities they work from better in terms economic empowerment and education.

This, he noted is based upon the philosophy of the Company which is to turn the areas they work better than they came to meet them.
