A presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party, Alan Kyerematen, has appealed to the leadership of the main opposition party to bury the hatchet, in order not to derail the party’s chances of winning the 2016 elections.
Machete-wielding irate youth stormed the Asylum Down-based headquarters of the party on Tuesday in the middle of a press conference that was being addressed by national chairman Paul Afoko.
Two people sustained injuries in the bloody attack that was aimed at cowing general secretary Kwabena Agyapong.
The former flagbearer-aspirant is being accused of running a one-man show at the secretariat, hence his alleged unilateral directive to the acting communications director, Perry Okudzeto, to proceed on his accumulated leave.
Kyerematen, in a statement, said he is “deeply saddened by events”, but called for “calm among the rank and file of the party” in dealing with the in-house melee.
“Now is not the time to engage in the blame game, in order not to play into the hands of our opponents and lose focus of our greater goal of winning power in 2016.
“I wish all party members, including the national executives will use laid down rules and regulations to resolve any misunderstandings to ensure our forward march to victory 2016,” the former trade and industry minister under the John Kufuor administration noted.
