34 institutions in Asokwa to benefit from world Bank project-Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah discloses

The Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah says the municipality stands to benefit from 34 projects from the World Bank when the latter gives approval for same.

The project by the World Body has been christened the Greater Kumasi Metro Area Project.

The program, the MCE disclosed seeks to increase access to improved sanitation and water supply in low income communities to strengthen management of environmental sanitation.

Addressing a General Assembly Meeting in Asokwa Thursday morning in the presence of the Member of Parliament (MP) Madam Patricia Appiagyei,  Chief Akwannuasah said 24 schools both basic and senior high schools and 10 health facilities have been selected as beneficiaries of the toilet facility project.

Some of the beneficiary schools and institutions are Kumasi High School, National Vocational and Technology Institute, Presby Girls SHS, Ramseyer Vocational and Technical Institute, Apostle Safo SHS, Dompoase M/A Primary ‘A’, Chirapatre Adventist JHS, Lady Julia Health Center, Kumasi South Hospital, Hart Adventist Hospital, St Ann’s Clinic and many others.

REVENUE:

The Asokwa MCE said as at the month of July, the Assembly had generated a total amount of GHC 5, 170, 386.58.

Items that generated the amounts were in the form of Grants (GHC 2, 999, 417.40), Lands (GHC 337, 309.13), Rates (GHC 978, 229.05), Licenses (GHC 670, 276.00), Fees (GHC 161, 945.00) and Miscellaneous (GHC 23, 210).

A critical examination of the financial statement indicates that out of the eight (8) revenue items, only three (3) were favorable in terms of target, Chief Akwannuasah noted.
However, the MCE said COVID-19 could be the cause for the performance because many of the revenue collectors were turned away from homes on suspicion that they may be carriers of the viral disease.

EXPENDITURE:

On expenditure, the MCE noted that the assembly had spent a total of GHC 5, 301, 325.21 as at the end of July 2020.

The item break down in the expenditure included the Compensation of Employees (GHC 124,008.88), Goods and Services (GHC 1, 909, 546.58), Goods and Services-non-financial (GHC 110, 892.94), Compensation of Employees-Government of Ghana (GHC 1, 164, 988.21), Use of Goods and Services-District Assembly Common Fund (GHC 1, 501, 399.75), DACF-MP (GHC 194, 761.00), Persons With Disability (GHC 272, 302.75) and  M-Sharp (GHC 23, 425.50).

MP:
On her part, Madam Patricia Appiagyei charged the Assembly to work hard to maintain the high standards it set for itself in the first year.

She noted that high and excellent performance would be the only guarantee or justification for Asokwa to continue to benefit from projects such as the World Bank facility and the Secondary City Projects.
