UEW: 176 Students’ Certificates Withheld For Misconduct While Studying Abroad

About 176 graduating students from the Department of French Education of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have had their certificates withheld for Six months.

These students were cross section of a total of 956 graduating class of 2018 whose actions whiles studying in Lome and Togo brought the name of the institution into disrepute, according to the University Council.

Announcing the incident at the 23rd congregation of the university, Vice Chancellor, Rev Father Prof. Afful- Broni disclosed that the decision was arrived at by management over what they describe as gross misconduct which characterized their behavior during their study abroad.

”I am saddened to announce that, of the 956 being graduated today, management has had to take a painful, but good decision to withhold the certificates of all the 176 graduating students from the Department of French Education,” he said.

According to him, the institution was almost at the verge of loosing scholarships for their year abroad due to the misbehavior of these students.

He indicated that the decision to confiscate the students’ certificated was taken after a thorough investigation.

”Let it be further recorded that this sanction is as a result of thorough investigations by a duly constituted investigative committee of this University,” he explained.

Professor Anthony Afful-Broni assured Ghanaians and the Global public that UEW is committed  to holistic education which includes moral education, adding that management of the university will not entertain any insubordination, misconduct, and misbehavior in the school.

He further indicated that, the University is working hard to construct more lecture halls to accommodate the large number of students from Senior High Schools who will be admitted in the school by 2019-2020 Academic year.

 

UEW to Graduate Over 16,000 Students at 23rd Congregation

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has commenced graduation ceremony for over 16,000 students at its 23rd Congregation from Monday, 19th November to Saturday, 1st December, 2o18.

The November Congregation is taking place at Winneba, Asante Mampong and Kumasi Campuses of the University.

At Winneba Campus, 1,440 students would be presented on day-one from the Faculty of Science Education and School of Business. Faculty of Educational Studies will present 1,376 on day-two whilst day-three will have 1,734 students from the Faculties of Social Science Education and Ghanaian Languages Education.

The School of Research and Graduate Studies would present six Doctorates; 205 Masters; and 293 Post-Graduate Distance Education students in addition to 956 undergraduates from Faculties of Foreign Languages Education and School of Creative Arts, concluding the Winneba graduation for day-six.

On Tuesday, 27th November, 2018, Asante Mampong will present 881 graduands from Faculties of Agriculture and Science and Environmental Education.

Elsewhere, Kumasi Campus will present 6,174 of the total graduates for the 23rd Congregation with 3,276 of Distance Education students from the Northern Sector on days-one and two. Faculties of Technical Education and Business Education will graduate 2,123 undergraduates on day-three. Eventually, on day-four, 231 Masters and six Doctoral students will be presented.
