UE Regional Minister urges GTA to explore tourism potentials in region

The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has directed the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to prepare detailed and holistic proposals, documenting the tourism potential of the region.

He gave the directive when the Upper East Regional Director of the GTA, Wisdom Ahadzi, paid a courtesy call on him in Bolgatanga on Monday.

He stated that a broader approach would allow stakeholders to choose projects aligned with their interests, emphasising that such comprehensive proposals would provide investors with a clear overview of the region’s diverse tourism opportunities.

“Some investors may be interested in the Tongo Rocks, others in the slave camps, and others in the Tongo shrines or other sites, so, if you focus on only one site and expect sponsorship, it may not materialize,” he said.

The Minister tasked the GTA to explore the entire region and identify additional sites with tourism potentials, adding that developing these sites could create additional revenue streams to support the region’s overall development.

Mr. Akamugri acknowledged the critical role of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in promoting tourism and urged the GTA to collaborate with MMDAs to identify tourism sites in the region.
