Teachers excited over mass promotion directive, calls on Gov’t to address safety and resources challenges
Public Teachers in the Bono East Region have expressed their excitement over the President John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress Government’s decision to give mass, long-overdue promotions for deputy directors. They believe this will positively impact their attitude towards work and advance their careers in the field of education.
Notwithstanding this good news; Teachers are also calling on the Government to address issues of their safety, lack of infrastructure and logistics in schools as the population of pupils keep increasing by the day.
According to John Owusu Antwi the 1st National Trustee of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) who made this appeal on behalf of Teachers, it was sad that in this modern day, some teachers in the Bono East Region travel very long distances on daily basis before reaching their schools with some even crossing rivers without protection.
He spoke in an interview with the Media when the Techiman North & South District of GNAT held their Quadrennial (54TH) Delegate Conference which also saw the election of new executives under the theme; “The G.E.S @50: Achievements, Teacher Motivation, Challenges and the Way Forward”.
Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour II, Chief of Hansua and Banmuhene of Techiman Traditional Area who was the Guest Speaker commended all Teachers for their extraordinary roles in training our children and shaping our nation at large.
Finally, Samuel Adjei the retained Techiman North and South District Chairman of GNAT appealed to their National leadership to expand their loans scheme to members especially the interest rates in order to better their livelihoods.
