Ranking member on Food and Agriculture says there is increasing food insecurity in Ghana

DrAfriyie-AkotoThe Minority spokesperson on Agriculture and ranking member for Food and Agriculture Dr.Owusu Afriyie Akoto has painted a gloomy picture about Ghana’s food security indicating that there is increasing food insecurity.

According to him imports of basic foods are escalating whiles the rate of growth of food production locally was declining.

Speaking on the occasion of World Food Day on the Live Break Fast show, Dr.Afriyie Akoto blamed bad policies of government for the situation the country finds itself in.

This year’s World Food Day focus on family farming to feed the World.

It is also focusing on world food demands and how to make sure people have adequate nutrition in their food

Dr.Akoto bemoans the dwindling local food production output as against increasing importation in recent times. He says the right things are not being done to improve local food production.

Dr.Afriyie Akoto who is the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso in the Ashanti Region admitted some countries are dumping products into Ghana killing the local agricultural sector like poultry and rice farming. He is urging government to put some anti tariff measures in place to give local farmers a level playing field
