Polio Immunisation

Ghana Health News-The Rotary Club of Ghana in partnership with Millennium Promise Alliance (MPA) have screened and immunized close to three thousand kids against polio across the country.

The exercise which took place in seven regions and twelve communities also helped screen children and adults and provide counseling on matters of health.

As part of the events, durbars were held simultaneously in the beneficiary communities where chiefs, Rotarians, politicians, health professionals and community members took turns lauding the event and putting other requests across towards the future enhancement of the programme.

This Polio immunization exercise is in its second year after a Memorandum of Understanding was signed last year between Rotary Club and Millennium Promise Alliance. Millennium Promise Alliance provided Mobile Phones, technology and training for the e-data collection aspect of the exercise.

Many who participated in the programme lauded the smooth flow of the activities and the potential of data collection, processing and storage for the future of Ghana’s health care delivery.

Country Director of Millennium Promise Alliance; Chief Nat Ebo Nsarko told rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi that his outfit is focused on driving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will deploy the necessary technologies and resources to ensure that Ghana attains the SDGs by the set period of 2030.

He also explained that though Ghana was declared Polio-free some ten years ago, the fact that the condition still exists in some countries including Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan still presented some risk to kids in Ghana and hence the effort to ensure that every child is vaccinated against the Polio virus.
