Peace broker meets untimely death

awudu quinyoA 50-year-old man who attempted to broker peace during a scuffle between a co-tenant and his wife has died after he was allegedly pushed by the co-tenant at Anyah Fanmilk in Accra.

The deceased, Awuda Quinyo, is said to have overheard a co-tenant, Pascal Tuvor, struggling with his wife (name withheld) while he was next door in his room.

According to the Odorkor Police, Quinyo and his wife came out of their room to separate the couple but Tuvor is alleged to have pushed Quinyo.

“He fell down and became unconscious and some eyewitnesses shouted for help,” said the Odorkor District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police (SP), Mr Abraham Acquaye.

He said Tuvor was arrested after Quinyo’s wife, Ms Millicent Yeboah, a trader, reported the case to the police.

The incident, he said, occurred about 5:30p.m. on August 13, 2014 when Tuvor’s wife, who lives at Dansoman Agege in Accra, visited him at Anyah Fanmilk, where Tuvor lived with his second wife.

“When the first wife, who was pregnant visited, a misunderstanding ensued between them and Tuvor assaulted her mercilessly,” Mr Acquaye said.

He said Tuvor had by then locked up his second wife.

“The complainant and her husband went to separate them but the suspect pushed him and when he fell unconscious he was taken to the hospital,” Mr Acquaye added.

Quinyo was pronounced dead on arrival at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and a complaint was, therefore, made to the police.
