Our democracy is at a crossroad-Clement Apaak

Member of Parliament for Builsa South; Dr. Clement Apaak says the country’s democracy is at a crossroad and endangered.

He made the comment in a social media post received by rawgist.com.

Dr. Apaak made the comment in view of the Majority caucus’ approval of what has become a controversial budget.

The budget was earlier rejected by the Minority caucus with the Speaker of Parliament; Right Hon. Alban Bagbin presiding. The same budget was shockingly approved by the minority later in the absence of the Speaker. A Deputy speaker presided and counted himself as part of the votes; a situation that became the subject of controversy.

“A Deputy Speaker cannot purport to overturn a lawful rejection of a hopeless and wicked budget by counting himself, deploying constitutional acrobatics, aided by the participation of an imposter” he wrote and explained that the earlier rejection of the budget “followed proper procedures and processes overseen by the substantive speaker, without constitutional gymnastics and the participation of an imposter”.

He stated that his caucus will not sit aloof for injustice to continue and stated that “we are closing in on exposing the imposter/fraudster, and those who assisted such criminality”.
