OSP issues wanted poster for former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has stepped up efforts to track down former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta by issuing a wanted notice, days after labeling him a fugitive.
This action comes amid criticism that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng may have acted prematurely in designating Mr. Ofori-Atta as a fugitive without following all legal steps.
The notice, released on February 17, 2025, features Mr. Ofori-Atta’s name, photograph, and personal details, stating he is wanted in connection with multiple corruption investigations.
These include the Strategic Mobilisation-GRA contract, the ECG-BXC contract termination, payments related to the National Cathedral, and the Ambulance Procurement deal. The notice also suggests he could be in the United States or the United Kingdom.
OSP Faces Scrutiny Over Fugitive Status
On February 12, 2025, the OSP declared Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive, alleging he had ignored repeated summons for questioning over corruption-related cases. Legal experts and political commentators questioned whether proper legal channels had been followed.
Some argued the Special Prosecutor should have obtained an arrest warrant and collaborated with international law enforcement before making public declarations. Others claimed the OSP was selectively pursuing individuals tied to the previous government.
