Officer not involved in Amoateng’s passport saga – Lawyer

Director-passportsLawyer for Eric Amoateng, Charles Pouzing has dismissed claims that the former Director of Passport, Eric Odoi Anim, was involved in a forged passport saga.

Mr. Anim was picked up by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to help with investigations into the forged passport issue.

Mr. Amoateng arrived in the country recently after serving a 10-year-jail term in the US for illegal drug trafficking.

He was subsequently arrested by the Ghana Police at the Kotoka Airport for allegedly possessing a fake passport. Checks by authorities indicated the passport belonged to a woman.

But speaking to Citi News, the ex-convict’s lawyer, Charles Pouzing said Mr. Anim’s arrest cannot be linked to the offence for which Mr. Amoateng has been charged until the Court finally provides evidence that he was.

“It will be difficult for anyone to know whether there is a link between the Director’s duty as a Passport officer and Eric Amoateng’s possession of the passport which they say has been forged until August 26, 2014?

He further stated that it is the state that will decide on the nature of the charges that will be preferred against the former passport officer if found guilty.
