NPP is broke; party machinery dormant at all levels

nppReports say Ghana’s foremost opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is broke.

As a result, the party’s machinery at all levels has been dormant and this has put pressure on executives at the grassroots.

Checks uncovered that the party turned bankrupt after the Tamale national delegates’ congress which produced the Paul Afoko led national leadership.

Also, it has been revealed that the party’s bankrollers have folded their arms and monitoring unfolding events awaiting the outcome of the flagbearer contest.

Bigwigs in the party who have their preferred flagbearer hopefuls are rather investing in their campaigns to the neglect of the entire party machinery.

It is still unknown whether the Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey led team has accounted for party resources meant for the 2012 general elections.

Nonetheless, the party has set June 6 to open nominations for its already heated flagbearership contest.

The arduous task ahead is how to raise funds for the impending flagbearership contest.

Whoever emerges as the 2016 presidential candidate will have to search for funds to run his campaigns.

Meanwhile, campaign teams of flagbearer hopefuls are already in the field marketing their candidates.

One of the flagbearer hopefuls, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, was spotted in the north of the country meeting delegates.

Addressing delegates in Tamale, Dr. Apraku debunked claims that he had a bad relationship with the party’s twice presidential candidate, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo.

Unperturbed, Nana Addo’s camp is re-strategizing and has decided to ignore any media warfare by the opposing camps from within the NPP.

This explains why Nana Addo’s official Spokesperson, Mustapha Hamid, remain tightlipped on Alan Kyeremanteng’s recent outburst in far-away New-York, where he called for a change of flagbearer for 2016.
