New Utility Tariffs Take Effect

PURCThe new utility tariff of 12.9 percent for electricity and 6.1 percent for water took effect from Tuesday, July 1.

The third quarter tariff should have attracted a marginal increase of 31.56 percent and 14.0 percent for water, but upon further deliberations, the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) decided to revert to the second quarter tariffs.

The Commission cited the current challenges facing consumers as reason for the revert to the second quarter tariff and not the third quarter tariff of 31.56 percent for electricity and 14.30 percent for water respectively.
