NDC is an embodiment of lawlessness, they cannot be trusted with the fate of Ghana – Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi

The Deputy Minister of Railways Development, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, has said the advice from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their Chair, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, to decline the invitation of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service goes to show the magnitude of disrespect the opposition party has for the rule of law in the country.

The CID Wednesday invited Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo to assist the police investigate some cases of kidnappings and arson, but some members of the party including the party’s Council of Elders and flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, deemed the invitation an act of victimization.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s lawyers had also stated that their client could not honour the invitation for various reasons, but it turned out late Friday, there were some meetings between the two parties with a strong indication of Mr. Ofosu Ampofo’s presence in one of the said meetings.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with www.rawgist.com on this subject matter, the Asante Akyem North MP believed while it may be within the rights of the National Chairman to decline the CID’s invitation, the conduct of the NDC does not augur well for democracy.

“It is quite sad that a party that claims to have been founded on the principles of probity and accountability are now turning back on their own words”.

“There is a situation at hand and the CID in its quest to probe and find solutions invite you to assist in investigations and you decide to make a whole fuss of it”.

The astute lawyer said Mr. Ofosu Ampofo could have declined the invitation without making a scene as was characterised by a press conference addressed by the party’s elders.

“What they are doing is just a recipe for chaos, you could have easily turned down the request of the CID without any qualms but to be calling press conferences, calling your Council of Elders and all that is amateurish”. In fact, “the NDC is just an embodiment of lawlessness and its a bad precedent they are setting, they simply can’t be trusted with the fate of Ghana”, the former Ghana Free Zones Board CEO added.
