The hullabaloo surrounding the biometric registration exercise of the Kejetia traders to pave the way for the construction of the Kejetia Bus Terminal is taking a different dimension as executives of the Kejetia Traders Association are assaulted physically.

Andrews Kwofie, spokesperson for the traders was physically assaulted by some angry mob believed to be the ‘errand boys’ of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti region.

He also alleged that the Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu is the mastermind of the attack.

The traders have questioned the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA’s) fairness in the registration exercise indicating that they will not trust the data of the assembly after the registration.

The traders have ended their version of the registration exercise whilst the KMA’s is underway.

According to Mr Kwofie some unknown young men pounced on him and begun to beat him up for making allegations against the ‘errand boys’ at a press conference.

“This afternoon we were returning to our various shops after our usual meeting when I heard noise from afar, when I turned I got a very dirty blow on my jaw, the team was been led by one Cantona and they were all on me.It was very terrible,” he recounted.

Though no arrest has been made, an initial complaint was logged at the Kejetia Police post and was the case was later referred to the Central Police station where police have commenced investigations.

He added that the boys went ahead to warn other executives of the association who are seen to be the active individuals in the whole registration exercise.
