Mobile Money driving financial inclusion-MTN Manager

Ghana Business News-General Manager for MTN Northern Business District says Mobile Money is roping in a lot of unbanked Ghanaians and is hence driving financial inclusion in the country.

Nii Adotey Mingle spoke to Bernard Buachi of rawgist.com during the launch of the Mobile Money (MoMo) Month celebration of MTN in Kumasi.

He says MTN Mobile Money currently has over 9 million active subscribers, over 100,000 agents, over 50,000 merchants and 17 partner banks.

He revealed that adults who have a bank account or are saving via Mobile Money increased from 62% to 69% across Africa and 54% to 63% within Sub-Saharan Africa between 2014 and 2017.

The General Manager was happy with MTN MoMo’s progress so far but explained that there are still a lot of vulnerable and unbanked Ghanaians that MTN is seeking to bring onboard as they mark this year’s MoMo month.

August every year is earmarked as MoMo month on MTN Ghana’s calendar and is dedicated to engaging various facets of society on MoMo–related issues and education.

The market women at Doctor Mensah; a part of the Central Business District in Kumasi where the event was held were advised to protect their MoMo PINs in order to prevent MoMo fraud.
