dr. peter twumaiA senior lecturer at the department of biochemistry and biotechnology at the college of science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Ir. Peter Twumasi is calling on student associations not to spend too much money on non-academic related events but should support researches in their various departments. He is also appealing to philanthropists and other organizations to support research works to help in national development.

He made this statement on ‘Nyansapo’ on Focus FM last Saturday when asked the major challenges researchers have been facing in Ghana.

According to him, inadequate funds and lack of support from authorities to have confidence in Ghanaian researchers have been the major challenges. As a result, he has made a call to various stakeholders to recognize Ghanaian researchers just like other researchers in various parts of the world.

Dr. Ir. Peter Twumasi believes Ghanaians are capable of researching into various topical issues to resolve the country’s problems but however reiterated that the authorities should have confidence in Ghanaian researches.

He bemoaned the practice where government and other major institutions resort to contacting foreign nationals to address pressing Ghanaian issues whereas Ghanaians might be fully capable if they are equipped with the necessary resources.
