Kidnap Horror Ends in Rescue: Ghana, Nigeria Police Bust Syndicate Behind Viral Torture Video

The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and the Nigeria Police Force, has successfully rescued two women who were kidnapped and subjected to brutal abuse, as seen in a viral video that sparked national outrage.

The deeply disturbing footage, which flooded social media, showed one victim nude and being violently assaulted with a machete. Public reaction was swift, prompting urgent action by Ghanaian and Nigerian security forces.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Ghana Police confirmed the rescue and announced the arrest of eight suspects across various hideouts in both Ghana and Nigeria. Authorities emphasized that investigations are still ongoing and additional updates will be shared in due course.

A key breakthrough came with the arrest of Okoribe Olohitare Ejeme, a female employee of AVSEC at Port Harcourt International Airport. She was identified as one of the ringleaders of the cross-border kidnapping network. Her arrest was made possible through a joint operation involving the NSB and Nigerian Police.

One of the rescued victims has been identified as Ama Serwaa Konadu, a 39-year-old hairdresser and event decorator from Asiakwa in Ghana’s Eastern Region. She was abducted on April 22, 2025, while on her way to work. The next day, her captors sent graphic nude videos to her family using her own phone, demanding a ransom of GH₵500,000.

The videos showed her in an emotionally and physically traumatised state, prompting her family to report the incident to the police. A rapid multi-agency investigation was then launched, leading to the successful rescue.

The Ghana Police Service has received widespread praise for its swift action and expressed deep gratitude to the NSB and the Nigerian Police Force for their support.

“The collaboration led to the successful rescue and arrest of suspects,” the police said. The case highlights the growing threat of cross-border crime and the critical importance of international cooperation in tackling human trafficking and organised crime.
