Kantanka Automobile to start commercial production

KANTANKAMr Kwadwo Sarfo Jr, Operations Manager of Kantanka Automobile Company Limited says his outfit is poised to start mass commercial production of vehicles in 2015.

Mr Sarfo said the company has produced sports utility vehicles and Pickups which are ready for sale in the Ghanaian market under the brand name Kantanka.

He said in an interview with Ghana News Agency, during a working visit by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to the Company’s assembly plant at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region that Kantanka Assembly plant is capable of producing 50 vehicles monthly, but could churn out more based on the demand and market share growth.

“For now the focus is on the Ghanaian market but in future, we aim to reach and serve the African continent, and the West African sub-region,” he added.

Mr Sarfo said the company would soon commence the production of saloon cars and buses.

He said the vehicles meet international standards and would be the most economic brand-new vehicles to be purchased on the Ghanaian market, adding that the car parts are imported, but assembled in the country.

He expressed concern about Ghanaian attitude towards local products, urging the public to visit the assembly plant for a test drive of the vehicles.

Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, Executive Director of NRSC, said the facilities at the plant meet international standards especially the quality control room that checks the speed and roadworthiness of the vehicles.

She recommended the need for airbags for the vehicles since the safety of the passengers is critical.

She said other stakeholders like Ghana Standard Authority, Driving Vehicle and Licensing Authority and Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority would also conduct checks on the company’s specifications to determine whether it meets international standards.

Mrs Obiri-Yeboah urged the public to patronise made-in-Ghana products and build confidence in the ingenuity of Ghanaian icon in technology.
