Godwin Asediba Graduates from GIJ with Bachelor of Arts in Journalism

Godwin Asediba has officially graduated from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, marking a significant milestone in his academic and professional journey.

The graduation ceremony, held at the GIJ Dzorwulu campus, brought together faculty, students, families, and dignitaries to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025. Asediba, who is known among peers and lecturers for his dedication, sharp storytelling skills, and passion for media development, proudly crossed the stage to receive his degree, earning praise from many in attendance.

Reflecting on his time at GIJ, Asediba described the journey as transformative. “GIJ has shaped the way I see the world and the role of the media in building society. This degree is more than a certificate — it’s a call to responsibility,” he said.

Throughout his studies, Asediba distinguished himself through his contributions to student publications, radio projects, and advocacy for ethical journalism. His final year project focused on the role of digital media in promoting accountability in governance — a topic he hopes to explore further as a practicing journalist.

Colleagues and faculty members were quick to commend Asediba’s work ethic. “Godwin has been an exceptional student. His curiosity, critical thinking, and commitment to truth-telling set him apart,” said Dr. Alberta Sefa, a senior lecturer at the institute.

As GIJ continues to cement its reputation as Ghana’s premier institution for communication and journalism training, it is worth noting that the school has consistently celebrated its graduates with formal ceremonies. For instance, the 14th Congregation was held on May 7, 2021, at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra, where the institute honored its 2019/2020 postgraduate cohort. This tradition of academic excellence and ceremony reflects the institution’s long-standing commitment to preparing leaders in the media space.

As Asediba prepares to enter the professional world, he says he hopes to contribute to strengthening independent journalism in Ghana and beyond. “The media must remain a voice for the voiceless, and I am ready to do my part,” he stated.

His graduation adds to a growing list of young, ambitious journalists emerging from GIJ.
