Food shortage to hit Bono East under Nana Addo-Nkoranza South NDC Sec

Dr Afriyie Owusu Akoto, Ghana’s Agric Minister

Deputy Secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nkoranza South Constituency; Kwasi Agyenim Boateng fears the Bono East region will soon be hit by severe food shortage.

The NDC Executive, also known as Katasko, attributed his fears to what he says is the abysmal failure of the Planting for food and jobs policy initiated by the government.

Mr. Agyenim Boateng also hinted that the fertilizer for the planting for food and jobs is very difficult to come by; a situation he says is due to the hoarding of such fertilizers by some “party boys” who sell them at outrageous prices that take these fertilizers out of the reach of the farmers. “The unfair distribution of these fertilizers is discouraging farmers in the area from production while these party boys have no practical farming knowledge or experience. This has made agriculture unattractive to the youth” he explained to rawgist.com’s Bernard Buachi.

He called on the Minister of Agriculture to take urgent action to resolve the fertilizer situation to avert the looming food shortage in the region and also deal with the smuggling of fertilizers to neighbouring countries.
