Food and Agric show takes off in Kumasi

foodThe maiden edition of the National Food and Agric Show has taken off in the Ashanti regional capital.

Several farmers and Agriculturists as well as stakeholders in the Agric sector were at the Centre for National Culture to contribute their quota to the development of agriculture.

Speaking at the show, Deputy Ashanti regional Minister Joseph Yammin was excited over the choice of Kumasi for the show.
He assured the gathering of government’s commitment to the development of Agriculture in Ghana, citing several policies and programmes instituted by government to support the Agricultural sector.

“Agriculture alone provides 60% employment for the Ghanaian workforce, 49% of total foreign exchange earnings and 40% of Gross Domestic Product. It also serves as a source of food security for the people and raw materials for our industries. The continuous support from the Ministry Of Food And Agriculture to this particular event speaks volumes about the government’s commitment to agriculture”, he said.

The National Food and Agric Show (FAGRO) as an annual show FAGRO provides the platform for farmers and participants to learn modern techniques of Agricultural marketing, the appropriate and modern use of farming technology and also farm business management such as laws and policies, accessing land, water, effective production services, resource management and conversation practices.

This years’ exhibition focuses on Small to Medium-scale farmers with limited access to modern farming technology.

The event is also expected to help raise awareness and earnings of farmers by linking them to the appropriate markets thereby boosting agricultural production in the country.
