Female Politicians must do more to eliminate corruption in Ghana-Hon. Amamoo

Edith Amamoo_NDCA former Ashanti Regional Treasurer of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edith Evelyn Amamoo, has challenged female politicians in the country to do more towards reducing corruption within society.

According to the Lecturer and Politician, women could use their influential roles in the society to make accurate suggestions to nip corrupt practices in the bud.

She said that most women preferred to engage in social issues which she believed were a potent means of influencing society and helping right the wrongs.

She added that although corruption was bedeviling the Ghanaian society, women were less involved when such issues came up.

“I was reading and realized Lin Kathlyn did a research in America and the world when they say corruption is in the system, Women are less involved globally and it is the same in Ghana when one talks about corruption issues in the society,” she indicated.

Honorable Amamoo therefore advised female politicians to give out good suggestions and advice to Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), political bodies and opinion leaders to deal with the growing rate of corrupt practices in various societal institutions.

She said the involvement of women in partisan political activity was very essential.

She also underscored the contribution of women to business and national development as well, encouraging more women to put their shoulders to the wheel in building a cohesive nation.

Madam Evelyn Amamoo has spearheaded a number of developmental projects in the Oforikrom and Asawase constituencies.

She championed the construction of some access roads in and around Aboabo, Sawaba, Akurem and the provision of litter bins to the Anloga and Ayigya electoral areas.

“Even Anloga in Kumasi I realized the wood workers were affected by the load-shedding some time back so I had to go to the President and some transformers were brought in to end the situation,” she recounted.

She however indicated that the above achievements towards nation building could only be realized if Women are actively involved in politics.

  1. If corruption is not stopped there is no hope for Ghana. From my personal experience it seems like corruption, stealing, telling lies and cheating is endemic in Ghana. I agree that women are the best chance for Ghana to stop this.

The Constitution and the Criminal Code seem well situated to stop corruption, if only they were implemented well.

May I recommend a special task force of people with impeccable characters and backgrounds to form a special Criminal Investigation Unit which has widespread power to investigate at all levels of Ghanaian Society and to prosecute the guilty.
