The CEO of Ghana’s leading Telecoms Company Ebenezer Twum Asante says HR practices are critical to the growth of businesses. He said the growth of MTN from a small business in 1996 to what it is now is a testimony of how effective people management can grow businesses.
Mr. Asante made the remarks during the first HR Interactive session held at the MTN House.
“HR Interactive” is an initiative by HR Focus, publishers of Ghana’s first HR magazine and organizers of the HR Focus Awards. The event was aimed at improving the relationship between employees and employers in various organizations in the country. Having won three awards including the Overall Best organization in HR practice in the 2015 HR Focus Awards, MTN Ghana was selected to host the first edition of the HR Interactive session.
In her opening remarks, Dr. Helen Hagan, CEO of L’aine Services noted that HR practice in Ghana is encouraging, although there is so much unchartered territory to be explored and adapted to the benefit of organizations. She described the interactive session as “where HR Meets, Leads and Innovates”.
The Human Resource Executive of MTN Ghana, Mrs. Amma Benneh-Amponsah, gave insights into MTN Ghana’s HR practices. She urged participants to make good use of technology to enhance their performance. She said, “In this digital world you have to consider Technology as your best partner. Technology can help you communicate, engage, manage people better”.
Participants were enthused about the policies and measures put in place by the MTN Human Resource Division especially MTN’s flexible hour policy.
Prior to the interactive session, participants were taken on a tour of the MTN House and they expressed excitement regarding the many initiatives taken to ensure the holistic well-being of employees.
Speakers at the event included the General Managers for MTN Business and Mobile Financial Services, Mr. Sam Addo and Mr. Eli Hini. They both encouraged participants to take advantage of the MTN’s digital offers to grow their businesses.
