Okpekpewuokpe Akpinifia Dagadu IX, Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area

Paramount Chief of the Akpini Traditional Area; Okpekpewuokpe Akpinifia Dagadu IX has called on the church to work closely with traditional authority to foster development.

Akpinifia Dagadu IX who was speaking at the first Synod of the Dayi Presbytery of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana on the 4th November, 2023 stressed the need for the church to encourage their membership to respect tradition and traditional leadership.

“Times have changed, and in the face of the changing times, the relationship between the church and traditional authority should be stronger in order to ensure the wellbeing and growth of our people. Let’s stop tearing down our age-old customs and traditions. Let’s not spit on our historical culture; the very things that define us. Let’s extol love and respect for traditional authority. Let’s join hands in mending the moral fabric of our society” he emphasized.

He also stressed the need for the physical impact of the church to be felt in the communities within which they operate.

Akpinifia Dagadu IX reminded the church that it was his forebears who helped established the church, provided land and even helped construct the building through communal activities; a sign that the church has always had the love of the traditional authorities.

For his part, Presbytery Synod Moderator; Rev. Wisdom Seloame Alorvi shared the vision of the Dayi Presbytery which has been newly created. He stated that the numerical and spiritual growth of the church is of great importance to the presbytery.

According to Rev. Alorvi, the church should not be labelled as static or “worst still as a dying church” and promised to do all possible in unity with other leaders to nurture the infant presbytery to growth.

He assured Akpinifia Dagadu IX, who was Chairman of the occasion that the church will partner him in the development of the area.
