The minister for environment has ordered four fuel stations to seize operations and a car servicing shop be demolished in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi.
The move is to clear structures on water ways and unapproved areas which are the major causes of flooding in the metropolis. Three of the stations are operating with expired documents where one is operating without approval.
It was also revealed that all Shell fuel station operating in Kumasi are without renewed permit from EPA.
The minister for environment Mahama Ayariga was surprised that several structures were erected at unapproved locations. He therefore ordered that a car servicing shop be demolished, Benab filling station, universal filling station, and shell filling station seize operations. Some ongoing Gas stations were also asked to halt work for proper work to ascertain whether their locations are appropriate.
Meanwhile the environmental protection agency says some of the permits for the structures were obtain from Accra making it difficult to stop the projects. The regional director, Isaac Osei said his outfit was left with nothing than to allow these projects complete because of some manipulations.
