Kwame Asenso Mensah; Head of Blood Donor Recruitment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital says the free SHS policy has helped the blood bank with adequate and consistent supply of blood.
Mr. Asenso Mensah was speaking at a blood donation exercise organized in commemoration of the 63rd birthday of Pastor Ransford Obeng; Head Pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Center Saturday morning.
According to him, the Komfo Anokye blood Bank has had adequate blood stock for some time.
He revealed that most of the blood stock held by the blood bank is obtained from students mostly those in Senior High Schools and added that the double track system has ensured that there are always students around when blood donation events are held at the various schools.
He lamented that the more matured population shy away from donating blood. “Even the young donors begin to avoid donating blood when they leave school or as they grow up” he complained.
Mr. Kwame Asenso Mensah appealed to Ghanaians to help save lives by donating blood frequently.
Pastor Ransford Obeng revealed that Saturday’s blood donation exercise was the 6th of such exercise in his church. He stressed that he continues to donate blood in spite of his age and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
He encouraged other churches and organizations to give back to society in various ways in recognition of the support the society gave them to make them successful.
He also believes that when leaders donate blood, misconceptions about blood donation are broken and hence called on leaders to openly donate blood.
