Dismissal Of Addai-Mensah As KATH CEO Lacks Sense-Asante Youth Association Protests
Nana Oppong Boadi, Vice President of the Asante Youth Association (AYA), a youth group whose focus is on the development of the Ashanti region says the decision to replace the outgoing CEO of KATH, Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah with someone else lacked common sense.
Speaking to the media in Kumasi Monday morning, Mr. Boadi said it beats human reasoning to sack someone who was performing to the satisfaction of both patients and staff at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He noted that members of the group were very incensed with the decision of government since it beats basic reasoning in appointments.
“AYA is surprised with government’s decision to do away with the services of Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah who is known to be performing excellently as CEO in addition to having about a year and half on his existing contract to fulfill his duties as head of KATH”, the AYA Vice President wondered.
Tension:
Flanked by Emmanuel Tweneboah Kodua, General Secretary of AYA, the Vice President said they had to stop their youthful elements who planned on storming the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
He also revealed that others planned on demonstrating at the offices of Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council dagainst this decision.
Nana Boadi noted that the members of the Association were surprised that rather than maintaining Prof Addai-Mensah to carry on with the retooling efforts at KATH including the renovation of the entire blocks, the NDC government has done the opposite of same.
“We are incensed at this decision and we are only holding on with a planned demonstration because we are meeting Otumfuos Hiahene who is Board Chairman of KATH to talk things through with him”, the Vice President of AYA disclosed.
Swearing In:
Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report the outgoing CEO was scheduled to hand over to the new and incoming CEO, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo, a former regional Chairman of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA).
This was to be done after the inauguration event by the Board where the new CEO was to be first outdoored.
Other things was a tour of the facility by the outgoing CEO and the incoming CEO alongside management members.
KATH at the time of filing this report was quiet and staff and workers were seen going on with their duties.
