In a conversation with Focus FM, Mariam Kaleem Agyeman-Buahin offered insight into the early stages of her academic path and how it helped shape her interest in communication and design.
Born in Ghana, Mariam recalled beginning her formal education at the Ghana International School (GIS) in Cantonments, Accra. “That’s where I completed both my O-Levels and A-Levels,” she said. “It was a space that encouraged creativity and built my confidence.”
After completing her secondary education, she moved on to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. There, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design. “I majored in Advertising, Integrated Marketing Communication, and Packaging,” she explained. “It gave me a solid foundation in visual storytelling and strategy.”
Mariam noted that her academic journey helped her discover the power of design in shaping messages and connecting with people. “I’ve always believed that effective communication isn’t just about words—it’s about clarity, empathy, and intention.”
Her reflections come at a time when more young Ghanaians are considering careers in creative industries, particularly in digital communication and design.
