Bongo District NHIA Director murdered

The Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, has condemned the killing of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, the Bongo District Director of the National Health Insurance Authority, who was shot, killed and burnt by unknown assailants in an incident that occurred near Nagodi in the Upper East Region.

In a statement dated May 20, 2025, Mr Ayariga expressed his dismay, declaring, “I hereby condemn, in no uncertain terms, the shooting, killing and burning of the body of Mohammed Seidu Akugri, who was the Bongo District Director of National Health Insurance Authority.

The attack on him took place in Nangodi near Bolgatanga. My heartfelt condolences to the family of my late comrade.”

The MP called on the security services to act swiftly, urging that “law enforcement agencies thoroughly investigate and apprehend the perpetrators of this dastardly act.”

His statement follows mounting public concern over the apparent targeting of public officials amid the ongoing Bawku conflict.

Mr Ayariga appealed to the public to remain calm and support ongoing mediation efforts led by traditional authorities, particularly the Asantehene.
