Managers of the Barekese water treatment plant are requesting military presence at the dam to ward off illegal activities at the area.
Illegal activities at the banks of the dam are said to be posing a huge threat to the source of water for residents 0f Kumasi.
The managers made the request when the newly appointed minister for water resources, works and housing visited the water treatment plant on a day’s working visit to meet departments under his ministry.
Briefing the minister, the Regional Quality control manager with the Ghana Water company, Charles Tulashie said the source of water is under threat from activities of illegal chain saw operators and galamsey activities
The minister for water resources, works and housing, Kwaku Agyemean mensah promised that everything possible will be done to protect the dam.
