Ayariga Vows To Redeem Ghana’s Football Image

ayarigaYouth and Sports Minister Mahama Ayariga has vowed to redeem Ghana’s football image following an embarrassing exit from the 2014 World Cup.

Addressing a team of eminent football administrators and personalities the minister said he is “committed to redeeming the image of football in the world.”

“I am also committed to developing the quality of football in Ghana,” he added.

60 eminent football administrators, including Abedi Pele, Stephen Appiah, Randy Abbey, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe, Akua Sena Dansua and Mr Rashid Pelpuo were named by the Sports Minister to review Ghana’s football and make recommendations.

The Administrators met Friday in what was the beginning of a two-day seminar in Accra.

The review has also become necessary following Ghana’s first round exit from the 2014 World Cup which saw the West African country amassing just one point out of a possible nine.

The disappointing exit was also characterised with reports of player indiscipline and an embarrassing airlifting of $3million from Ghana to Brazil to pay appearance fees of disgruntled players.

The incident made Ghana the subject of global ridicule.

A three-member committee has been constituted by government to look into the circumstances surrounding Ghana’s shameful exit and make recommendations.

But the minister is convinced the 60 eminent football administrators would provide the appropriate recommendations to fix Ghana’s football.

Contrary to assertion that government is subtly attempting to interfere in Ghana’s football, the FA spokesperson Ibrahim Saani Daara told Myjoyonline.com the seminar is in collaboration with the Ministry.

He said the FA is happy to be part of the seminar geared to improving Ghana football.
